I had the unique opportunity to attend an event yesterday that was hosted by the local Rape Crisis Center. My company was a contributor. I was chosen to go for a nice lunch and to hear a Hollywood actress speak.
Dixie Carter came on stage and recounted her life. I felt as if I was sitting across the kitchen table from an old friend as he told about her childhood, college years, marriage and the sadness of her divorce and how God directed her to California, where she met Hal Holbrook.
The main thing I took from her was, relationships are special. Cherish them and spend time with those you love, never allowing a chasm come between friends and family. We are reminded of our roots as we get older and between Dixie Carter and Clarenence Thomas, I am getting the message loud and clear. If you are my friend from old and there is anything between us, let us work it out and get past the bad stuff and find the love that was there.
Thank you Dixie for re-setting my compass.
